A school bus stops and picks up a young girl named Izzy. She's odd and dirt covered, and all the other girls on the bus seem to laugh at her. Izzy is kicked off the bus after attacking a Nun and pissing on her face! Two unlucky friends pick her up with the hopes of sex, only to be killed like pigs in the woods by this crazed bitch. Izzy then flashes back to killing everyone on the bus, saving the two blonde bimbos for last and killing one in a horrific manner. Izzy is stuck raising her younger brother Kevin while her older brother Rusty is away at war. Barney is an older man who tries his best to check on the youths but doesn't see that Izzy is slowly losing her mind to a world of violence and extreme torture. To make things worse, flashbacks show that she had an unhealthy crush on her older brother! Kevin is being bullied by three kids. Before Christmas break he is saved by Izzy who goes on a hunt for the bullies and kidnaps them. She plays sick mind games with the youths, making the lead bully kill his two other friends in cold blood. Izzy keeps the bully, a blonde school girl from the bus and one of the perverts who picked her up captive in an old barn just outside of her house and torments them with her sly sick charm all thru the Christmas holiday. She tortures them, cutting off the dick of the sleazeball and making a make shift dildo out of it and raping the blonde schoolgirl with it! The end has a sick and wonderful twist that will make you want more from the sick and twisted world of Izzy.
Leslie Andrews does a great job as the sick girl Izzy and has a nice mix of sweet girl and psycho bitch in her performance. Plus in a sick way, she's kind of cute covered in blood! I love the plot of a teenage girl who is confused about sex and violence, right and wrong and family values that deals with her stress by killing those she feels she's more powerful than. The effects are low budget and for the most part are very effective in their mean spirited nature. A lot of blood is spilled but not enough to be overboard. The soundtrack is a good mix of creepy score and upbeat indie rock that surprisingly fits the mood of this flick. Some of the highlight moments include the fact she made the bully kill two of his friends only to be killed later on and the pouring of gasoline down a girls throat! Overall I was really surprised by this film and would say it was one of the best independent films I watched in 2009.
The DVD is loaded with extras like most Synapse releases. Those extras include Death By... featurette (which is an amazing watch), the films teaser and original trailer, Sick Girl PSA, bloopers and outtake music video and an interview with Stephen Geoffreys who's best known for being Evil Eddie in Fright Night. The DVD cover says all you need to know about this twisted independent film.
I really enjoyed this independent horror film that would please fans of more mainstream films like Saw, Hostel and High Tension. I say it's worth a buy and a for people who like original style films with lots heart.
