The Ghastlee Movie Show was a television staple during my teen years, and I spent many nights watching this crazy horror host do all types of wild and weird skits. Here for the first time is the best of collection, straight from the Ghoul himself! Some of his most classic skits are here like his funny "The Manster" spoof where he gives some great MST3K style commentary and in some shots adds himself perfectly into the scene. Also included: Ghastlee's crazy show openings that are skits unto themselves, fake commercials like Cannibal Harry's restaurant, music videos that are cut together with clips such as the classic "Coming Around The Mountain" video paired with old school porn clips, highlights from his highest rated show were all he did was stare into the camera, guest stars like Dow Thomas giving a Christmas song filled with cheer, Christmas skit moments, "Giant Gila Monster" crazy commentary and inserting of himself in scenes and all types of other wacky segments and moments. This set is truly a nice best of collection of some of Ghastlee's wackiest moments, and his adventures around town at places like the Neon Movies.
This is a homegrown Dayton show that ran from 1988-2008 on Public Access and is very much missed. Ghastlee's brand of humor is very slick and has a great mix of low brow and sophisticated comedy moments that are classic to the horror host. This set does a good job at giving you a good idea of how random and over the top the show was.. The editing is very fast paced and has an almost 80's MTV style to it. The music videos are also very smartly put together and flow super well. The side characters on the show are all classic, and make great friends and foes to Ghastlee's style of hosting. This show will forever be a part of my life and was one of my favorite watches on late night television. I hold it with other classic shows like Shock Theatre with Dr. Creep, Commander USA's Groovy Movies, Super Scary Saturdays, Monster Vision and Up All Night. If you love those shows or independent horror films and television then you will want to check this out.
The DVD is barebones, but then again I am not sure what you could add as an extra for a best of set. The cover is pretty amazing and very eye catching.
This is a great watch and is essential for any fan of horror hosts or even classic public access TV shows. It's a must-own!
I should also state that I was on this show for one episode and played Ghastlee's son who really was not his son! I would love to see a box set of the first season of this show come out because I would be the first in line to buy (HINT, HINT Bob). A. Ghastlee Ghoul is also touring around the Dayton area with his band Splattertude, so go check them out!
